Subtitle timing guidance
The website calculates CPS and one timestamp. Opening, editing and saving subtitle files are Windows evaluation-app features.
Check reading speed
Copy one cue into the CPS calculator and enter its duration in milliseconds (end minus start). For example, 12 counted characters over 2,000 ms gives 6 CPS. Compare against your delivery specification; no single threshold fits every audience. Review wording and segmentation before extending a cue beyond its spoken phrase.
Check a constant timing shift
Use the timestamp calculator for one timestamp. A cue starting at 00:00:01.000 shifted by −250 ms starts at 00:00:00.750. Apply the same shift to its end to preserve duration. A constant offset cannot fix drift that grows throughout a video; compare early and late cues and inspect the source frame-rate assumptions.
Before exporting
Keep the original file. Review cue order, overlaps, gaps and line breaks, then play the corrected copy with the actual video. The Windows evaluation app handles subtitle files; these web calculators handle individual values only.
